2022 saw Thailand enact some of the most liberalized and open-minded cannabis practices in the world.

In the blink of an eye, the once taboo and illegal plant was reclassified as a traditional medicinal herb.

Hundreds of dispensaries opened throughout Thailand, with different levels and quality of cannabis and service.

Mendel Menachem and Nick Becker from HighThailand, Thailand’s preeminent source on all things cannabis in Thailand, have visited many of the most unique cannabis venues throughout the land, trying and reviewing the many facets of the Thai cannabis culture and scene.

Let them take you on a virtual weed tour through Bangkok’s best weed shops.

Disclaimer

This article will not cover weed trucks, which are a common sight in Bangkok, as they are illegal.

The reason for their illegality is that a license to sell weed is tied to a physical address, which a truck does not have.

We do not cover edibles either.

Although some weed shops offer edibles, the majority of high-profile dispensaries in Bangkok do not sell them due to their unclear legal status.

As a result, we cannot provide any recommendations on edibles such as weed brownies or THC-infused gummies.

Sukhumweed

Sukhumweed, located on Sukhumvit Soi 42 near the corner with Rama IV, is the brainchild of Soranut “Beer” Masayavanich.

The shop is a multi-floor, multi-themed physical manifestation of Beer’s personality. 

This dispensary is the preeminent cannabis establishment in Thailand with a boutique featuring cannabis accessories, a smoking lounge, and a clientele that includes a who’s who of Thailand.

The star of the dispensary area is the cannabis itself, with twenty-five locally grown genetics from the Local Growers Club as of the date herein.

The Local Growers Club is a group of elite Thai cannabis cultivators, with quality rivaling anything found in the country or elsewhere.

Indeed, many of the Local Growers are stars themselves in the Thai weed scene with established names like Canis Major, T-Rex, Olive The Gardner, 66Zombies, and Underground Grower.

Dr. Green Bangkok

Dr. Green Bangkok is a warm and cozy three-story dispensary located across Asoke from Soi Cowboy, a short five-minute walk from the BTS (Asoke) and MRT (Sukhumvit) stations.

The décor is all green, inclusive of cannabis plants related to those buds harvested and available in the shop.

The staff is friendly and welcoming; the vibe is positive, healthy, and relaxed.

Dr. Green’s strains are the center point of the establishment and are professionally grown by Dr. Green.

The strains come from a diverse group including two unique CBD strains.

The flowers are grown with a medicinal view in mind and the quality corresponds with the care given to the plants.

The goal of the shop is to be a safe place, with a family vibe, where anyone can come, even if it’s just for a talk or to learn about the plant.

A lounge on the second floor allows customers to relax and enjoy complimentary drinks and roll their own joints with the use of communal rolling papers and grinders.

Fat Bud’s Weed Shop

Fat Bud’s Weed Shop is located at Sukhumvit Soi 65 with a second shop open in Sathorn. 

The Sukhumvit Soi 65 shop is a convenient five minute walk from either the Ekkamai or Prakanong BTS stations.

The shop has a super casual vibe with visitors warmly welcomed and invited to slowly take their time picking from a wide array of high-quality and mid-level local strains of cannabis.

The staff and owners are available to recommend strains, talk about life, hang out, and just have a relaxed good time.

And just like the shop, the staff are super laid back, friendly, open, and warm.

PHC (Pretty High Cannabis Dispensaries)

PHC, has three shops located in Pattanakarn, Ari, and Ekkamai.

The vibe of the shops is local, chill, and warm.

Owner Younggu, a top local hip-hop artist, and collaborators such as Yungzu are on the scene, bud tending, talking to customers and friends, and welcoming everyone.

This is a dispensary with a family business vibe and philosophy to it.

PHC is very personal to Younggu, and his personality and warmth are very evident throughout the dispensary. 

The philosophy of the shop includes hip-hop but also a focus on health and incorporating cannabis into a healthy lifestyle.

PHC sources cannabis from the top farms and growers in Thailand with an active team of scouts curating buds for their stores.

The shop’s owners take great pride in their craft, their products, and their selection of buds.

The shop itself is sleek, trendy, and streamlined, but not soulless like an Apple Store.

MOB still retains a stoner’s character and charm with elements that would appeal to a younger and newer generation of tokers.

Best Buds Thailand

Best Buds is a convenient dispensary located in Bangkok’s Korea Town mall.

The dispensary has a good selection of buds from established and up-and-coming farms in Thailand with a knowledgeable and friendly staff readily available to assist.

Best Buds house a smoking area where customers can either roll and light up their own joints or borrow one of the dispensary’s gravity bongs.

This smoking area has plush seats and small couches and invites an intimate and social gathering amongst friends.

The vibe of the shop is unassuming, friendly, and inviting with customers hanging out and conversing with each other and the Best Buds.

A steady stream of customers comes through the shop at any given time, checking out accessories, eyeing and smelling buds, eating complimentary ice cream, and choosing either to lounge in the smoking area or move on.

As the dispensary is located in Korea Town, many customers buy their buds, smoke up and then feast on the delicious food in the neighborhood.

Highland – Khao San

Highland is a name that predates legalization and is associated with a coffee shop that served as a gathering place for those who supported the legalization of cannabis in Thailand or were involved with the industry prior to legalization.

Their latest endeavor is a shop located on Khaosan road.

A large sign featuring an old timer is displayed in front of their window to ensure visibility to those passing by the world’s first cannabis mall, Plantopia.

Highland exclusively sells locally grown flowers and offers an extensive variety of strains with varying levels of potency.

Midnight Hightime

Midnight Hightime, situated in Bangkok’s Sathorn district and only a quick 3-minute motorbike ride from the Sala Daeng BTS Station, boasts a futuristic storefront that seems straight out of a cyberpunk video game.

With its blue neon light and bold pink/purple logo, you can’t miss this dispensary as soon as you enter the Soi.

Midnight Hightime prides itself on offering locally grown flowers from their own farm, on which they were growing weed for the medical market already, providing customers with a unique and high-quality experience.

While their menu may not be the largest, they do carry a diverse range of strains that are sure to please any discerning cannabis enthusiast.

And if you’re looking for a place to relax and enjoy your freshly bought flowers, head upstairs to their smoking area, where you can indulge in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.

In short, Midnight Hightime is a dispensary that’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in the Sathorn area.

Across the Chao Phraya River, there are notably fewer dispensaries compared to downtown Bangkok.

However, there is a hidden gem to be discovered – Weedview.

Owned and operated by a group of young friends who share a passion for cannabis and music, the atmosphere here is truly unique.

Locals frequent the establishment, and visitors are welcomed with open arms.

Despite the intimate setting, outsiders will not feel excluded, as the friendly and welcoming vibe ensures that you’ll feel right at home.

Weedview primarily sources its products from local Thai growers in the area, setting it apart from the offerings found in many of the Sukhumvit establishments.

Ganjana

While Ganjana may be located quite far from the bustling city center of Bangkok, the journey is well worth it.

We refer to it as the “Temple of Thai Weed,” this dispensary is owned by some of Thailand’s most skilled and renowned growers – 66Zombie, Canis Major, Olive the Gardener, and PowerPuff – who were cultivating cannabis underground long before legalization.

Once you’ve experienced their flowers, you’ll understand why Ganjana is so highly regarded.

These talented growers are not only passionate about cannabis but also have a love for Magic cards.

If you’re interested in joining them for a game, it’s best to check in advance if they’ll be playing on the day of your visit.

Adjacent to the dispensary is a small skate park, offering a fun way to spend some time before or after you indulge in their top-quality products.

And speaking of indulging, smoking is permitted in front of the dispensary, allowing you to enjoy your purchase in a relaxed and comfortable setting.

Although you may have to venture a bit further out from central Bangkok to reach Ganjana, the exceptional quality of their locally grown flowers and unique atmosphere make it a must-visit destination for any cannabis enthusiast looking to explore the emerging cannabis scene in Thailand.

Restaurants

As we have not personally visited any cannabis-infused food restaurants, we are unable to provide genuine recommendations for such establishments.

Typically, these restaurants use only the leaves of the cannabis plant in their cooking, which makes them legal, unlike most edibles such as weed brownies or gummies that often exceed the legal limit of 0.2% THC content.

However, we have received positive feedback about two “weed restaurants” that serve dishes with cannabis as an ingredient.

These include the MD-82-Café in On Nut, which is located in a decommissioned airplane, and Koko, a Japanese fine dining restaurant in Silom.

It is worth mentioning that at the most recent HighTable event held in February 2023, a four-course dinner with weed pairing was available.

Where Can You Smoke Weed In Bangkok?

A lot of hotels, cafes, bars, and restaurants in Bangkok, allow you to smoke weed like they allow cigarettes.

Same for most gentlemen’s clubs.

Some like The PIMP welcome it in both their live music zone and VIP rooms, but others might not be as open about it.
